AVI Divx - please explain

Hi. When using VirtualDub to split a large Divx file (typically 700 Megs or so) why is it that on some files the audio goes with the 1st half and everything is out of synch and no audio goes into the second half, yet the original file plays fine? On other occasions, splitting the AVI into 2 has no problems.

In the first case, I save the audio stream byitself (it's in MP3 format so I rename it, then get the RAW WAV data which can total more then a GIG, then encode with that for VCD output. Am I doing it right, resulting Video playback on my DVD player still has synch problems but is "watchable." Playing on a fast PC, the video/audio is in synch and plays fine. Do I need a better player, one with progressive scan maybe??

dont use virtualdub to split AVI files, use a program called AVIChop, www.vcdhelp.com under the tools section

OK, I tried that - AVIChop crashes in Win2K after attempting to create the 2nd AVI. The first AVI that is created also crashes and is unplayable. Any other ideas?

hmmm, not that i know of, look through www.vcdhelp.com under the tools section, they might have something other than avichop... also try the software section at www.divx-digest.com if you haven't already..... On the other hand, is there not any way to run AVIChop in Win2k using a compatibility wizard or something like that? i have winxp and it allows you to set any program to run using past operating system compatibilites, under the program's properties...........
