why can't i select my write speed?

nero burn application and recode keep scrapping out every disc i put in. i have done a drive speed test, and i does not go above 5X, should be 8X.. now this is no prob to me, but i can only select 8X on recode or burn. no other option available.. this is driving me mad. can anyone help? i am sure if i could burn at 4X it would work every time?

You have the latest firmware for your burner installed and the updates for Nero installed?

firmware yes, nero no. keeps crashing when updating. only on 56k modem so it is a time consuming process

If you have a new model of burner - that is not covered in your current Nero version - Nero uses a generic description.

will try to go to internet cafe and download all teh relevent updates to get me to nero 6 ultra, recode 2 etc. burner is emprex 1108, cheapo pc world job
