Does any one no of a possible method of playing back DivX files/movies of a Playstation2 as it is very powerful and can read many formats. DivX works for the dreamcast.
No so far, the dreamcast is the only console that plays divx, divx players for PS1/2 and XBOX are still missing in action.
But if you are looking for a cool looking pc/console for divxplayback, take a look at http://www.cappuccinopc.com/

What about the PS2-Linux box that is out?
I don't know much about it but it might be eisier to get that one
to play divx..no?
You could by 5 DreamCasts for the price of the Linux Box (well in the UK you could).
You could even by a BookPC (dinky little thing) for that price which has S-VHS TV-Out built in and the size of a Phone Directory.
It's made to work with TV with it built into the BIOS etc.
I use a couple as DivX players with BSPlayer and Remote, works fine. I sprayed it black and stuck it in with the video/TV etc.

he he he
How much is the PS2 Linux box in the uk? Just woundering...
I have allthough read a tutorial that allows you to play VCD's on your PS2 but that involved alot of converting and only supported movie clips not whole movies...To mcuh for so little.
Why not make a DVD player that supports DivX playback?
And why not use the Minidisc format . . .there must be ways to make them store more than regular CDR's. You could also fit a huge amout of movies on you shelfs instead of just a few.
Go MD!
Cheers
About £150 (Sterling) so they say, as they aint here yet.
I would not use my PS2 for anything other than games, as DVD looks crap on it.
All you really need is a firmware upgrade, some say that the latest DVD software that comes with the Sony remote should do it, but I aint had no luck. I think Sony are so sad to leave VCD support out, but then again I have had a few of there Vaio's and they aint much better :(

However, it seems to have been like this for a while, there doesn't seem to be much progress. IT's called Da Video, allegedly it'd a Divx player for the Ps2
