View Full Version : divx 5 and tearing

I've been capturing from video tape using virtualdub and the divx5 codec. The only thing I have changed from default is the encoding bit rate, which is set to 375.

Everytime, I get tearing within the picture on playback. What is weird is that it happens only within the left hand portion of the picture, and only around the edges of red or black areas. Any idea why this is, and/or how to fix it?

TIA

scrub that! It only seems to happen when I try and play something I've captured while virtualdub is still open. If I shut it down, and then play the file I have just captured, there are no problems.

But why do u want to capture and compress at the same time?????????????????? Bad quality.

Try to use these settings:

NO RECOMPRESSION
CD QUALITY uncompressed audio
320*24
YU12
25/30fps

This is the best settings, then convert to DIVX

Now that sure must suck, 320*24 thats just silly (OK maybe it was a typo :) )

Here how I do it in vdub

Video compression: huffyuv lossless compression.
704*576, yuv2, 25fps
Audio uncompressed 16bit stereo 44.1khz

m8, no it doesn't suck! I tried it works like a charm!

Then u can resize it if u wish in virtualdub!

I have captured over 60 videos using the SAME settings and it is NEAR DVD quality!

Everyone has their own opinions!

woops, it was suppose to be 320*240! not 320*24! Sorry!

I think TV-capture at 320*240 with NEAR DVD quality is a contradiction in terms.

I know what u mean m8, this is what to do:

capture using the settings I gave.

Use virtual dub to resize to any res u want

Then use any filters if u wish to

Then it will give NEAR DVD quality, depending on the source.

Or

use TMPGENC to resize to any res (like 720*576) and encode in MPEG2/1

I have done it just now and it works!

I know what u r saying but it works for me, try it!

Yikes!!! upsizeing, that definetly a big no no in my book.

It will never give you more details, only blur the picture, and because you are encoding at a higher res you will be wasting bits, that would have been much better used at the source resolution.

You should never raise the res of any video before encoding, much better to use the bicubic resize DS filter for playback.

Nope, it doesn't! Try it.

I have done it again, especially for you, and it does not produce more bad quality, it makes it better!

Even though, use NO RECOMPRESSION, it does not lose quality.
