Hi there,

if you want to convert your DVD with only some clicks to DivX5 then you probably want to use my GUI for that.
It supports:
- 2 pass encoding
- up to 2 audio streams in your DivX
- 2 disc mode with 650, 700 and 800 MB support

all you need are some clicks and it does it for you

But can it rip a DVD to one CD without major loss of quality? I haven't done DVD rips and I am going to soon but I don't like DIVX 4 or 5. If DIVX 5 can rip a whole DVD on to one cd then I will change the way I do my encodings! :)

You should make yourself familiar with video compression first. if you invent a technique that makes you able to recompress a dvd to a single CD rom you'd be the richest man on earth before you can say "oh yeah"

DIVX 3.11alpha can rip a whole DVD on 1 D without loss of quality m8! :)

I know alot! I do alot of capturing and editing, I have proof that u can fit a whole DVD on 1 cd!

It fits to one CD but MPEG is a compression based on loss of video information.
Give it a try and tell me about your efforts.

Greets.

MPEG? who said anything about MPEG?

You know a lot??? Ok.
What you didn't know is that divX is based in MPEG4??? You do know that a DVD is encoded using MPEG2???

Of course you know!!!

So try it!

??
Yes, I know that!

What I am saying is that can DIVX 5 (MPEG4) rip a Whole DVD (MPEG2) on to 1 CD?

Can it do it like DIVX 3.11alpha?

I don't think so!

:)

Just personal opinion

of course you can.
how it looks depends on the movie as well.

made some fixes. Try it out.
The fastest divX encoder I've ever seen.

Really? Faster than fast motion?

I am not trying to make trouble, I am just saying that DIVX 3.11alpha is the best for me and some people here.

But, everyone has opinions!

I'm afraid I have to agree with techno on this one=)
I've tried both DivX 3.11 and DivX 5 on the same movie at a couple of times. And 3.11 with nandub SBC encoding is better than DivX 5 in quality and their is not a big difference in speed.

I meant that I have tried it on different movies...
My fault

Wanna try it on the same one? I would like to hear about that and some others too, I think

I ment that I tried out both on different movies. I've tried it on Planet of The Apes and a Swedish action movie that translated is The Bodygaurds. The quality get's a little bit worse with divx 5 and the calculation isn't completely correct. But the speed dosn't different much from each other.
There now you got my opinion.

ROTFL, rather bold words from someone who have never ripped a DVD, you should probably make yourself fammiliar with dvd ripping before makeing such statements.

Next I suppose you will claim it's best to use the fast motion codec. Try encoding a movie like Vertial Limit with the fast motion codec, and you will quickly see why no experienced encoder use that codec.

eh, NO khp, I never said anything about fast motion being great on DVD's!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get the facts right!

Yes, I have ripped DVD's, 2 times yesterday and today, u can fit a whole DVD on 1 CD using low motion and no loss of quality

My facts are completly right, I never claimed that you ever said that fast motion was great for DVD rips.

But if you want to get into this, the following threads all talk of DVD ripping, and you seem to be adviceing to use the fast motion codec.

There are probably more threads like this, but searching through your postings got boring about half way through. I am not calling you a liar, I am just saying that you should not make bold claims about something you obviously don't know much about.

I talk about fast motion for capturing! Please, my facts are correct, let us just cut the bulls**t!

There is absolutly nothing wrong with my eyes, and my statement was not meant as an insult, it was a statement of fact.

With an average movie (9/16 aspectration, full res, length 1:45 hrs), using the highest possible quality settings, will usually result in approx 2GB video data, regardless of which divx codec used (divx3.11, divx4, divx5). Even at that quality level there will be a quality loss, it probably wont be noticeable on moving video, but looking at still frames of high motion action scenes there will be a small but noticeable difference. Adding 128kbps audio and compressing it to fit on a single cd means reducing it by more than a factor three. This will introduce noticeable difference durring playback. Which is why most people doing one cd rips reduce the res to 608*X or 576*X, which is not what I would call dvd quality.

Well, I use settings that work for me!

Fast motion works great on MOST of the stuff that I encode, NOT DVD's

Ooh this sounds like fun :)

You could reduce the final file size if you desimate frame rate by 2 and most eyes won't notice much of a difference and still keep the quality. But hey you gotta laff :biglaugh:
