Folder2Iso Version 1.3

If you have saved your output files from DVD Shrink or Nero Recode 2 in a DVD folder - a folder with subfolders VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS and you want to convert that folder to an ISO and to be able to use ImgBurn for burning that ISO - you can now use the freeware tool 'Folder2Iso' to do this job.

There is no longer the need to redo the whole encoding process from scratch with DVD Shrink or Nero Recode 2 and let that program output an ISO.

The program can be downloaded here (http://www.trustfm.net/divx/SoftwareFolder2Iso.html). The author of the program is mkisofs.

How to use the program:

http://www.trustfm.net/divx/Images/Folder2Iso.jpg

Just press Select Folder and add your folder that you want to make iso. ex : f:\movies\Matrix
Select the output path and add a name like test.iso. Please note that you can not save it at the same path of the step 1 . (choose something like : f:\movies\Matrix.iso )
What is a DVD folder?

A DVD folder contains normally two subfolders; a VIDEO_TS and a AUDIO_TS folder. In the VIDEO_TS folder you find files such as these:

Is this program any faster than the approximate 2 minutes it takes NERO Burning ROM to create an .ISO image file from a ripped DVD "package" residing on the hard drive?

The only real advantage is that you don't have to go thru all Nero menus.

Why would you not use ImgTools Classic - v 0.91.5 which has been around for years? This also has the great feature in that it honours your authoring layout without repacking the sectors. How about a sticky for coujo?

so which tool is better? imgtool or folder2iso?

@rahzel - all I can tell you is I use ITC (which is really just a front end for mkisofs.exe) in conjunction with DVD Decrypter and have never had a bad result.

I just thought it funny that this "johnny come lately" prog comes along and gets so much prominence (a sticky with lots of fanfare!), when people like Derrow and r0lZ and many other senior memebers of the community recommend ITC.

How about a sticky for coujo?I'm going to do a sticky on the different tools you can use - so that one will be covered in that also. :)

Did you notice that the Authoring forum got a new name?

No, I didn't. But, as they say "what's in a name?" I can hardly keep track any more.

If I remember correctly another tool for your DVD tool box.

IFO edit can convert a VIDEO-TS folder to an ISO image ready for burning.:)

IFO edit can convert a VIDEO-TS folder to an ISO image ready for burning
AFAIK, I can't recall that IfoEdit can do that. ImgTools Classic can and works perfectly in conjunction with Imgburn for burning DVD

Benbryant,

I pulled the notes from approximately 3 to 4 years ago, to go from VIDEO_TS folder to ISO image using IFO Edit. The notes are rough but I think you can get the idea of how I converted.

These notes asume the following:
1. decrypter ripped the DVD
2. IFO edit did the authoring for video, audio, subtitles, chapters
and created a seperate movie only VIDEO_TS folder ready for burning
3.subtitle color code changes to the same as on the source DVD
4. burn ISO image with decrypter and the DVD disk was a DVD+R

CREATING AN IMAGE FILE USING IFO EDIT

Copy and Paste subtitle colors from the old main movie IFO file to the new main movie IFO file. Use the open button.
Location VTS_PGCITI (VTS_PGC_1)
Then hit the save button.

Load the new main movie IFO file which is in the VIDEO_TS folder and select disk image. Put the one image file in the same folder as all the other files which is VIDEO_TS folder.

The image file is now ready to be burned with DVD Decrypter ISO write mode. Change the book type settings to DVD-ROM in ISO write mode.

Thanks ed klein for the heads up. You had to do the step of coping the sub color from the original IFO to the newer one since you used IfoEdit to create all new .ifo files. You can restore the sub color by using PgcEdit too. Once again, mahalo for the info

I just downloaded Folder2Iso to my computer. Hit Run. Clicked Folder. It won't go anywhere. It just sits there and doesn't let me select the folder where the Video_TS files are. It looks like it's just frozen. The program is not responding.
I need some help.
Thanks...

To Cynthia,

Just skimming the forum and found your post. I have been looking for something like this for a long time. Thanks for the post. I'm downloading it now. I will post again when I've found time to use it. :)

Thank you,

Folder2Iso should not be used on dvd video stuff, it won't build a compliant image.

Maybe soon we will see a new version of a program that will build a compliant image and burn it.
