I have VisualStudio 8 (I also had VS 7 SE installed previously). I want to set project preferencies to AVI and use MPEG Layer-3 for the audio. However, when I select 'MPEG Layer-3', the highest rate is '56k 24,000hz stereo'.

Surely it should be possible to select something like '128k 48,000hz stereo' or higher ?

Do I need to install an extra MP3 codec to be able to get a decent encoding data rate?

I want to use VS8 to encode DivX movies (with DivX v5.1), but I need MP3 audio for this.

The other problem I get with VS8 is an error message saying the frame size is wrong for the selected codec when I choose DivX in the video or project properties. I am trying to encode into PAL, using its standard resolution.

Does anyone else have these problems with VS8 and DivX?

Lame MP3 is the codec I use with good results.

I would use Lame MP3, but that crashes Visual Studio !!!

Anyway it does come with an MP3 encoder, but the data and sampling rate selection is a joke.
