Trouble with VSO Divx to DVD

Hi. I successfully transferred an avi file using VSO Divx to DVD. However, when I burned it to DVD-R the picture didn't look too good. A lot of boxes (pixels) are on the screen. What can I do to get a better picture or get rid of these "boxes"?

If your backup freezes, stutters, skips, or has some pixelation, it is more than likely due to poor quality media being used. Cheap media is poorly manufactured around the edge of the disc, hence the reason why it mostly skips toward the end of the movie. The two main things to consider first are: Is it cheap media that you are using? (ie. some off brand you bought at a local computer store/fair, even a store like Circuit City or Best Buy sells cheap low quality media.) How fast are you burning? - Burn no faster than 4X, might have to go down to 2X with really cheap media.

Also, are you using adhesive labels on your back ups? If so, try removing the labels (if you can) and playing them again. Go here for more info on why not to use labels. - http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28604

Also try lowering outcome the "Target DVD size".

Open DVD Shrink. Click "Edit", then "Preferences". On the first tab at the top in the drop down box, change it from "DVD-5 (4.7GB) to "Custom" and enter a number of 4200MB (4464MB is burning to the edge of the disc, you want to stay away from the edge as the edge of cheap media (disc's) are poorly manufactured). I have TDK DVD-R's. Aren't they a respectable brand? I burned at 8X. Also, did you want me to send the files through Shrink? I converted with VSO Divx to DVD and just sent them through Nero to burn.

tdk are very good, are they good with your burner? (see below)
i suggest 4x burn speed, tops.

Would 2X help even more? They are good with my burner. I have an HP 530i. As for jmet's question, I don't have adhesive labels on them.

A) No, there's no need (or way) to involve DVD Shrink in what you're doing - unless your resultant initial DVD "package" exceeds 4.37Gb

B) You might want to try a different methodology:

One set of procedures (other posters may/probably will suggest alternative methods) would be:

1) Use "TMPGEnc" (or "TMPGEncPlus") to convert the .AVI (DivX-compressed or otherwise) to compliant MPEG2-for-DVD format - Use "TMPGEnc's" DVD wizard/template to accomplish this

2) Use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (a different program than "TMPGEnc") to easily create the required additional DVD files and structure (and chapters and a menu, if you wish)


**If the combined filesize of the DVD "package" written to your hard drive is greater than 4.37Gb, use DVD Shrink (or similar) to compress


If your O/S is either Win2000 or WinXP, TMPGEnc DVD Author can also burn your DVD. Otherwise, use NERO to burn in "DVD-Video" mode
(As an alternative to "TMPGEnc DVD Author", you could use "DVDLab")

I have used some of the all in one converters to see the results ie video/audio quality and how long to complete the end product. IMO VSO divx to dvd and Dvd2scvd (I used cce 2.5) were two of the better products. However I still like to have more control over each step ie encoding video/audio (especially home movies) so I use a proceedure more closely to what "setarip" stated above. It might take longer but IMO the result/s are worth it.

Hi. I burned at 2X and most of the pixels are pretty much gone but the movie itself is not "DVD quality" so to speak. Is this pretty much as good as I can get it or should I try the TMP? Thanks for all the help!

For setarip: I downloaded TMPGenc and it gave me a compressed folder with a lot of icons. I try to click on some and it gives me the "windows cannot open the file" message. There's no icon for installation or anything. What can I do?

If you've downloaded it from an official site, just place all of the files into one folder and doubleclick on the file named TMPGEnc.exe (or similar)...
