I ripped a dvd to my hard disk using cladDVD 1.70 and then wanted to encode it using the latest divx codec 4.0beta and Xmpeg 1.4c. However, when I click on encode after setting all the appropriate settings, I get a message saying,
"An error occured when trying to generate this file. Check that you're not using the output file or the program is set up correctly"
The file is not in use.
Help?
I am using win2k sp2 but I get the message under win98 too

Maybe it's a problem of your encoding program: try to encode using Nandub, you can find it on divx digest

Encoded using flaskmpeg instead and the audio slowly loses synchronisation with the picture over the course of the film. The film is PAL 25fps. Anyone know why the audio is out of sync?

Hi simon,

Your problem with Xmpeg 4.1c is a common one. The cause for that is audio coding related. You use MPEG 3 encoding and 128Kps bitrate for audio right? Any bitrate higher than 56kps causes that problem.

I tried Xmpeg 4.0, same story. I believe it is a programming bug. Some guys from doom9.org forum said that changing the MP3 coder from Radium to Lame cures it but I donno from where to get Lame coder.

You might also try the FairUse. Its almost foolproof. But on some DVD's it just doesn't work.

Best and fastest encoder in my opinion is mpeg2avi. really ugly to handle but with the GUI it's ok. U get it on digital-digest.com ,too.

have fun

Thanx Velociraptor. It was those settings.
Now just need to cure the sound synch problems :-/

If the sync is MP3 related, then export the audio out in either a seperate wave file, or together (what ever your preference), and then use Virtual Dub to mix the video and audio files together and encoded the audio into MP3 format. The sync problem will be eliminated. I had the problum a few times, but this fixed it.
