Hi all,

Is there anyone out there that can help. I`ve got a film in SVCD format but it`s letter box screen and I`d like to convert it to widescreen or 16:9. I`d also prefer to put all 3 disks onto a DVD.

Does anyone know how to do this and which software to use, (hopefully free downloadable software).

I`m waiting with my fingers crossed.

Cheers,
Richard

You will first have to re-encode the video with no letterboxing.
You can then author it to dvd.
Because you have to re-encode anyhow, you can make it dvd compliant at the same time.
I would rip the mpeg's in ISO buster, then join them in virtualdubmod, crop the letterboxing, and frameserve to (insert favourite encoder here).

Hi reboot,

Thanks for your suggestions! I`ve got the software you`ve mentioned but I`m having trouble trying to find out how to rip the mpeg`s using ISObuster. Sorry to be a bit of a thick o, but can you talk me through it.

Cheers, Richard

Going from memory...in ISO buster, right click on the AVISEQ and select "extract mf2 frames" (or something like that).
This will produce the mpg.
Open the mpg in virtualdubmod.
Select video, filters, null transform.
Click Cropping.
Crop the top and bottom off, so you only see the actual movie in the right hand window.
Frameserve it to your encoder.

Hi Reboot,

Thanks for your guidance. I`v managed to rip all 3 and crop them as you described (each one is now approx 28 gig byte) but am struggling to understand how to join them together using the virtualdubmod. Therefore I`m requesting your assistance once again. Please help!

Thanks,
Richard

Open the first, select file, append and browse for the second, do the same for the third.
Now you can frameserve to your encoder to make the dvd. They will be joined.
If you don't know how to frameserve, there are at least 3 good guides, one at doom9, one at videohelp.com, and (IIRC) there's one here...just google "virtualdub frameserve", and you get lots of hits.

Hi reboot,

Thanks again for your suggestoins. You`re a star!!!!!!

After I managed to crop them all I did use the virtualdub to join them however it couldn`t get the frameserve thing to work, even after reading all the info on how to use it! I did it by using Intervideo WinDVD creator and burning it directly to a DVD.

Thanks again for your help and advise and if anyonw else is reading this, then reboot is you man if you need any help.

Cheers,
RIchard

Glad you got it sorted.

What were the problems with frameserving?
