I have a film in two parts SVCD (on my harddrive) that I want to either convert to 1 DVD or 1 avi file so I can play it on my standalone dvd player. It will play either but not SVCD. I have read many different forums & guides but they all seem to require so many different tools that it is more confusing then it seems worthwhile. There must be a simpler way of doing it. Thanks for any advice you can give me (and probably others).

You can either re-encode it to DVD spec, or rip it and re-encode to divx.
Either way, you are going to need (at least) two tools.
The first tool will extract the mpg's from the disks.
The second would then join and convert to divx, or re-encode to mpeg-2 for DVD.

I would use ISOBuster to get the mpg's, then virtualdubmod to join and convert to divx.
Tmpgenc plus will re-encode to dvd spec mpeg-2, but it's tediously slow.

I did indeed try SVCD2DVD and it worked perfectly. One step operation. I didn't have to put it into other software to convert it to something else. I just loaded in either the mpg or bin, clicked on Quick DVD & it automaticaly made a file that I could burn with CopytoDVD. Bought it & very satisfied. Try it, you'll like it.

Did it join your files too?
(Note to self: take another look at SVCD2DVD, it's been about a year).
