Player which "contains" the DivX Movie

Is there any Player which allow to create a .exe file which contain the Player and the DivX video and, when launched, plays it?

For example Macromedia Flash Player allow to open an animation (made with flash) and "create projector", an exe file which contain the movie in itself and is able to play it.

None that I'm aware of - but simply doubleclicking on any .AVI file (unless you, or a program changed the association) should automatically bring up the Windows Media Player and start playing the video...

I don't think you can do that (unless maybe you know enough programming). There are autolauncher's---you insert the divx cd and it launches.

I just had this crazy idea! Have no knowledge of if it will work or not, but it always something! Can't you include a copy of the divx player 2,0 or the playa or a player that is small enough on your cd, and then create an autoplay.ini file that tells the computer to open your player with a play "d:/........" extension??? I don't know if it will work, but hey, its a good/crazy idea right??? =) But this still requires you to actually have divx installed on your computer for decoding purposes so when I think about it, its pretty useless, since thats the problem you're trying to overcome right??
If there are any player that allows you to specify your own searchpath to the divx.dll file, and don't take to much space on a cd, you should try this approach!

Including a player on the CD, in my opinion, is a rather difficult-to-implement idea. A better method would be to just include a script file (I'm no script writer and so don't know how to make one) that tells Windows Media Player 6.4 (All versions of Windows come with this player, 98 to XP) to play the file on the CD. Indeed, the appropriate DIvX codec will still need to be installed and present for this to work, but you can always tell this to the person yourself or write down the instructions on the CD or a readme file. :)

A possible problem. Don't you find that many viruses are scripts too? What if an antivirus program picks the script up and treats it like a virus? The owner of the system will freak out, thinking that we were trying to harm him/her. Just posting my thoughts.

Yes, many viruses are scripts, but I think that most of the antivirusprograms (the good ones anyway =) have an ability to recognise harmful code. Such as duplicating code, or code that tries to alter the properties of other files! This script that you talk about making would be none of this!
Back to my original idea! For it to work, there is a need for the player to be independent, and work completely by itself. If some such player exists, that also allows a person to chose his own path to the codecs, my idea should be a possibility, and not to hard at all!!

Windows Media Player 6.4 is existent on almost all Windows installations, so it is the most likely candidate. Otherwise, you can probably write a script that simply tells Windows to play this .avi file you have got on the CD. With the proper codec installed, I don't foresee a problem.

I suggest you make a really nice menu with MicroDVD and after that you create a menu with a good menu builder where you can let the user to install MicroDVD and DivX codec(You can also let run MicroDVD from CD, so you only have to install the codec) as far as I know this is the most user friendly methode

Menu Builder -->to let the user choose what he wants to do eg. play movie, install codec , install MicroDVD(optional)

Well, yes you can create autorun.ini files. It is just a matter of searching on the web.

I do alo of programming myself but never done this type of thing as I don' really need it right now.

Sorry, Techno, I'm mainly into DivX encoding and wouldn't know much about MPEG-2 encoding. I will learn about it when I have the time. A final year student's life has been really hard. :)

Ok, I am sorry, I didnt know!

I always encode to MPEG2 to make it better quality then to DIVX fast motion! and quality is really good.
