how to convert .divx files in .avi or .mpeg

I have tons of movies in the .divx format, but everytime I convert them with Virtual dub in .avi files or with TMpeg in .mpeg files the video stream gets lost, only sound is still alive. So the screen remains black.

What can I do? I can play the .divx files on my PC without any problems, but converting is impossible.

divx = avi u just have to rename, why u wanna encode again?

to make mpegs out of divx, use tmpeg enc:
source = avi/divx file

thanks for your reply, but my problem is: although I have renamed them, if I encode the .avi or .divx files with Tmpeg there is no picture. Sound is ok, but no picture.

What is the problem. It works with every other .avi file, but with those .divx files it doesnt.

you're are not missing any codec?

i got a feeling u have the same problem as me. tmpeg is not compatible with divx 5.0. uninstall ver 5 and install 4.12.


try and see if it helps.

As I posted in respose to another virtually identical posting here:

1) TMPGEnc is not able (yet) to handle DivX 5.0

2) The "indeterminate" listings for the audio stream would seem to indicate that this would cause a problem for VirtualDub.

You could try, from under VirtualDub:

Saving the audio stream as a WAV file

Then changing the "Audio" setting to "No audio" and saving the video as a DivX v.3.11 or 4.xxx silent video (by selecting "Compression" from under the "Video" dropdown menu).

TMPGEnc should then be happy to accept both files for input.

I have tried it and it works fine. I have just deinstalled Divx5 and reinstalled Divx 4. Now even TMpeg can encode my vids.
