Output videos not saved when filtering w/ virtualdub

I have a movie that I brushed up a little using virtualdub in order to get it ready for burning. I apply the filters, watch the output file and decide that the output is perfect, I'll leave it at that. So I go to save it as an AVI and everything saves fine, but when I open the movie, the filters I used aren't shown and the movie is the same as before I made any changes. Thoughts?

do you by chance have VIDEO set to DIRECT STREAM?

you must use FULL PROCESSING mode and pick a compressor

I have it on full processing and tried saving it again as AVI using Intel indeo 4.5 compressor, but it doesn't seem to be working becuase the estimated file size is huge and its only going at 4-6 fps. Any ideas?

well, 4-6 fps depending on the filters applied and codec used could be true

alright, I could care less about fps, but the file size is killing me. estimate at 52gb for an originally 1.2gb movie. Filters added are brightness, contrast, and sharpness. All the changes were minimal. Im trying to use intel IYUV for video compression, ac3 decompressor for audio. I have no clue what code/setting die im using (im sort of a noob)unless you want to explain more.

:rotfl: i think "die" is a typo. i think uncas meant "did"

intel iyuv is not a good codec. it does not compress very well. i suggest you use the xvid codec instead. guides and software can be found at http://www.doom9.org :)

why do you go for any intel codec?

Finally, I got it. Thanks everyone. Used the divx codec and it looks perfect, and now I'm down to the final part which is preparing for dvd burning. I tried to convert the AVI file to an mpeg2 using TMPEnc but when I start it an error message pops up saying cant load P3Package.dll. Whats going on?

try reinstalling tmpgenc :)

If you're gone to encode to an mpeg I would save the output from Virtualdub as an uncompressed avi. no need to encode 2x. this will not only save time but you should get better quality by encoding only 1x

Alright, I made it into an mpeg2 but it came out to large for a dvd and it has seperate files for the audio and video. How should I go about combining the two and getiing it under 4.7gb?

If you have Tmpgenc plus use it by clicking file>tools to mux the 2 together. If not I like ImagoMpeg-Muxer (free). Use an authoring program such as Tmpgenc dvd Author to author the mprg. Use Dvdshrink to compress the authored dvd. In the futer you can check your settings in Tmpgenc to output to a single mpeg file.

Im having a little trouble, muxing the 2. The audio file is a .wav and wont be opened, but the video file is fine, being an m2v. Where should I go from here?

convert the file to mp2 (or ac3, if you wish) with a program of your choice... such as "besweet" (make sure you get the tool 'belight' for it as well, to make it easier to use)
