If you got nero from anywhere but the official download page I would be
very skeptical about it, seems that lately the virus/trojan boys are
embedding their crud in popular installers, not just keygens or cracks,
not that I would have any firsthand knowledge of such things. Like I tell
my clients, you installed xyz trojan at 12:15am last thursday, and that's
why I am having to reload your computer. Much quicker than using nortons,
spybot and trojan hunter from safe mode and spending a few hours in the
registry.

Lets say that is the case , is there any way to try and find the nasty thing or just reset comp to factory settings..?

Fully updated norton's, spybot and trojan hunter scans from safe mode.

Try a system restore if you're running XP.

Try what rbrtpl and blutach said to straighten out your system and "If it is the case" it didn't come from the official site get rid of it, it could be what started the trouble in the beginning.

Allow me to intervene....
XP restore is as limited as a tin of beans is for feeding 5000 hungry people...
Scans and updated virus/trojans/spyware/adware/malware and memory resident self replicating threats detectors/removers is not always the standalone option to keep systems free of nasty stuff.
For better or for worst investing on proper Imaging bare metal restore software like i.e Acronis true Image 8/9 and it's desktop/work station or server or Network backup/snap restore solutions...
Heck a little attention in that department saves hours of fiddling...
A tipical 10GB restore is done within 10minutes tops.... (on my systems) a 50GB is 20minutes with all software and updates and so on....
Update in the right times and you can have hell break loose a few minutes it's like new.
