Sony CD copy DRM

What is the difference between conventional cd players, and cd players/burners on a computer? How come copy protection only affects players in computers? Is there a program to basically have a computer cd player operate like regular cd player? Wouldn't that essentially eliminate the the use of this type of copy protection?
