I used to be able to fly through the DVD Shrink process without any problem but I haven't copied any DVD's for about six months. Today I tried to using the same equipment and settings I've always used but I keep getting an error message when the burning process begins.

The four IDE "things" (I'm not computer savy) are off in DMA portion of the log so after reading through the other threads dealing with this it's my understanding that this is probably my problem. However, the DMA step by step thread didn't help because when I go into the properties for the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers I get a different screen than what is posted on the DMA thread. From what I can tell the properties says DMA is enabled but the error log says otherwise. Basically, I need help. Here's the log - let me know what else you need:
(PS...i also uninstalled the DVDROM and then rebooted. it recognized it and such but when i tried to burn again it came up as DMA off. thanks in advance for whoever attempts to help out)

When did you update you nvidia motherboard chipset drivers? That's what's hosed your dma.

Mine says nvidia nforce 2 ata controller(v2.5)
when I right click on it and hit properties
it brings up a window with primary and seconday
under secondary are options for bios control, and various dma's

Have you tried uninstalling nvidia controller and rebooting?

just uninstalled nvidia controller and rebooted - everything read and reinstalled. still won't burn and still says "DMA off".

don't remember when i last installed the drivers - it was this past summer sometime. mine says "nvidia nforce2 ata controller (v2.6)"

when i bring up the properties box i can uncheck "let BIOS select transfer mode" and then choose from a list of DMAs. is that something i should try? it's (my DVDROM) currently on "ultra dma 2 - ultra33".

try and roll back the ide driver to windows xp one first

there are 2 other things to try, under nero preferences, cache, test all drive speeds, let's see how fast your hard drives are, nero may not
see the dma right

another thing your burner is old and has older firmware
yep you bought 16x dvd-r's

now that I have checked, update your firmware
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1934

or find some old media

Here are 2 more threads you may wish to read one for DMA and one for better success in burning.

DMA: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44808

Golden rules: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49635

I know you have been having successful burns, before the DMA problem, but you may wish to consider getting some better media. CMC is not known for being quality media.
