I found a cure for my choppy video playback. It happened with W2K's DVD Player, Real Player, and WinDVD 7 Platinum. I have an earlier version of Nero installed. It did not come with packet writing software, so I downloaded the third-party program Write DVD! to add this feature.

Write DVD! has an utility that was set incorrectly and causing my choppy playback. If you use Write DVD!, go to Start>Programs>Write DVD and click on SAI Switch Utility. In the File System tab that first appears, only the following two items should be selected:

Use SAI UDF File System Driver

Access via OS Embedded ISO-9660 File System Driver

Click OK after these changes, reboot your computer as requested, and enjoy perfect playback from your DVD player software.

Since posting this, I discovered that the above change took away my ability to drag & drop files and folders to DVD-RW disks. You have to decide which is more important to you. I had to revert to the previous settings since I need packet writing ability (drag & drop to DVD-RW).

And the final cure is: Write DVD! was not the problem with choppy playback. It's SAI Switch Utility reported that WinOnCD was found on my system which is another packet writing program. I searched and found two entries for this plugin which came with the trial version of X-Setup Pro. I uninstalled this program which had expired and rebooted. I then deleted the X-Setup folder left behind in Program Files after the uninstall. I then searched for WinOnCD and it was gone. I then inserted five different DVD movies and all played perfectly!
