Anybody tested this? I heard XP has some issues with older programs.

Does Divx 3.11 alpha work in XP?
Yes. Have you personally tested it and found problems?

I wouldn't agree that 5 (or even 4.x) is better than 3.11. I currently have 4.12 installed in my computer because some of my downloaded videos are encoded with this codec. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother having it installed in my computer. :)

Normally, you shouldn't face much of a challenge installing divx 3.11 alpha, however divx 5.0 may be specifically compatible with Windows XP. There can be numerous reasons why a particular codec may not function---both software and/or hardware. There are problems with backwards compatibility, so unless you require divx 5.0 don't install it, stick with divx 3.11 and possibly divx 4.x, again only if you need 4.x.

Sarit16, does DivX5 Pro automatically take over your 3.11 file playback? It is the very one bug that has prevented me from completely upgrading to it from 4.12. I won't let anything else take over my 3.11 codec. :)

HOWDI, WHAT DO U MEAN BY TAKE OVER?

For example, if you play a 3.11-encoded video and you look at the filters in use during playback, do you spot the DivX MPEG-4 DVD Video Decompressor, or DivX Decoder Filter instead? If it is the latter, then the answer to my previous question is yes. Otherwise, it's a no, which I doubt. :)
