when i am in nero and it asks for write speed, i choose 8x, but when i start the burn, nero window says "can only write at 2x (2,770 KB/s) instead of 8x (11,080 KB/s) to current disc" then starts the burn at 2x. my computer is compaq v2321us
im using memorex dvd-r with 16x write speed embossed on the disc. burner is MATSH1TA UJ-840D. why is it doing this? thanks in advance.

Using a demo version?
If you burn with another burning application - can you get the burning faster then?

JAG609 : the faster you burn is the faster your burner crash, Memorex you may change your custom target to 4200 or even 4100 in order for it to last long

Everything looks fine dma wise, but first off let's forget
trying to burn at 8x on those disks,
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?selectmedia=3197#comments
now what's wrong? That laptop has a decent cpu, but the mats...ta
drives have a horrible reputation.
You might want to check the compaq website for an updated driver/firmware.

try some 8x media
you might consider an external dvd burner if you are serious about this
