What is the Best way to convert a DVD to DivX, or some other format. I have been very frustrated trying to convert my DVD's to DivX files. Could someone please give me some feedback on the best way to convert a DVD to Divx?

So far, I have tried to convert my DVD's with DivX converter, but the sound is very low and I don't know how to change it. If someone knows how to adjust the sound when converting .fob files to a Divx file please give me feedback.

Please send feedback to dungfu@operamail.com

use 'gordian knot' with the xvid codec

dvd-->xvid guides at http://www.divx-digest.com and http://www.doom9.org

For all-in-one converters I like Fairuse.
Most of the time I will rip the dvd (dvddecrypter) without splitting the files. Use Virtualdub mpeg2 to convert the rip to avi (I like/use xvid). IMO this gives me better control etc. Do some small tests with different programs and see what you like. As "anonymez" stated gordian knot does a good job. Their is auto and regular Gknot.

i've only ever used staxrip briefly, but from what i have seen, it doesn't support all x264 features, and neither does the regular x264 vfw. great program otherwise, like an updated GK :)

i use avisynth+ x264 cli/megui

is this true even for the latest staxrip build?

just checked the latest version, seems to have option to edit cli, but some features are still missing, the main ones custom matrices & profile support. and a couple of smaller (but excellent for tweaking) settings are missing

For a newbie, Auto Gordian Knot could be the go DungFu.

I will mainly do improvements for average joe user and regarding ease of use e.g. adding sharktooth's profiles so if you need more GUI settings MeGUI is indeed a much better solution. If possible I want to support GUI control for all options sharktooth uses in his profiles but 30 options are my pain threshold so let's see.
