Darn, I wrote this really long post, but it somehow didn't work, so forgive me but I'm going to be brief:

I think I've read every thread regarding the conversion of Mp3s to ac3 files, and I've followed the advice under all of them, but it still doesn;t work for one of my files. At the moment i have two avi files (that I've converted to m2v files - files without sound), and HAVE extracted their sound as ac3 files, but only the ac3 file for the second video file works (in the TMPGenc DVD author program) , while the other one comes up with the 'Illegal Audio Format' warning. The, both mv2 and ac3, are practically identical. They're roughly the same size, same bitrate and were converted/extracted the same way, and the order in which I add the file in TMPGenc doesn't matter, the first file NEVER works.

I've tried the following programs to fix/convert the ac3 file (none of them working on the first ac3 file) : ACSfix GUI, Besweet GUI, Besliced and ac3 enc.

I've also attempted to load converted MPEGs into the sound and video settings of TMPGenc, but that also had unexplained errors.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, i'm utterly exhausted!

So, you figure your elementary streams are compliant right? If so, turf out TDA and mux them with muxman - free and perfectly compliant.

you will find that 80% of ac3 audio loaded into tmpgenc dvd author will produce the error when there is nothing really wrong with it. it really annoys me. however besliced ALWAYS fixes it. i have yet to see it fail, honest. there is something else wrong or the ac3 is corrupt beyond repair. if blu's method fails you, i'd just convert the ac3 to wav so the project isn't a waste of your time. you can use besweet or even px3's ac3 to wav converter.

Thanks for your help! I just extracted the audio again and used besliced again, for some reason it started working :s.
