Hi,

I'm kind of tired of all do-it-yourself encoding apps and patches and things..
I've been thinking about purchasing DivX 6.1 create (http://www.divx.com/divx/create/) for all future encodings.

I would like to get your opinion on whether this package is worth the money, and also the pros and cons for such purchase..

Thanks

Later Addition: Please consider this when consulting-
What i do with DivX today that i want to do with the creative:
I have a portable media device with which i record from TV - a compact VCR that stores data in DivX. Thing is, the compression ratio is not good cause it's real time compression.
So afterwoods i just re-encode the recorded stuff and burn it.
I use VidrutalDub to CUT and encode the recorded stuff.

I would think that if you are looking for a way to have a program encode the movie for you I would use auto gordian knot. It is free and you can encode in either divx or xvid. Very simple to use just point it to the movie files, then tell it what you want for a final size and hit encode.

Where do I read about and download auto gordian knot from ?
Any safe server ?

Thanks

by "safe" i mean a server that does not looks like a software or download website but actually has mal software or that the software i download is actually a trojan...

uninstall divx 6.1, the devs don't want to support it. it'll work after that :)

xvid gives higher quality than divx, and faster to boot.

Right.. Already figured out the uninstall divx6.x thing. After i removed it i still encountered too many bugs with the sound, the picture and so on.
I gave up on AGK as an option. Like I said - I just want to cut and encode videos. I had it with configs and updates and patches and such.

About the quality - Divx6 delivers superb quality, better than any xvid I’ve seen.

Thanks for trying to help guys.

then i'm thinking you've not set up the codec correctly. if in doubt check doom9's codec shootout. only very recently has divx (almost)reached xvid's level.

xvid is far superior to divx, not sure where your problems are coming in but agk is easy to use. rip the dvd in ifo mode with dvd decrypter, point agk to the ripped ifo. now just set your options and hit start, then walk away.

So, again.. I never encountered a Xvid encoded video that was better in quality than DivX6.
If Xvid is better than i would like to use Xvid rather than Divx.
The key thing here is i want an application that works, and doesn't require a lot from me.
I don't want to play to a never-ending list of parameters to configure, browse through forums for problem solutions, asses the video i want to encode, etc. I lost the video-producing enthusiasm some time ago, I'm just too tired of it, and i really don't have the time for it anymore.

So, do you know of any free, easy and intuitive, and bug free Xvid app that delivers high quality video ?

Thanks

staxrip might work, what errors were you getting with agk?

staxrip = http://www.planetdvb.net/staxrip/ ?

With AGK I got codec collision, crashes, the sound was scrambled, the colors and contrast distorted.
I am running windows XP on P4 and have more than just a few video related apps.

You may want to check out this program that I found on the internet. Shows a lot of promise and may be what you are looking for.

AJP do you have any idea if StaxRip will run (get along with) FairUseWizard if you already have it installed?
Since it's free I was thinking of trying it ... just because :smashead:

shulthise, I have FairUse Wizard installed and the way I do it, it works easy and well. It even tells you go away and do something else for a while. Takes 3-5 hours to run on my 2.8 with 1gb of ram.
I have the boughten version of it ($20) ... the free version works fine and well but only allows a file size of 700mb and the purchased version allows you to set the output file size.
I use DVDShrink (whatever you want) to make the movie an ISO image file and FairUse does it's thing and turns it into an avi file with very little user input.
I suggest you try the free version first and see if it's something you like.

If you have anydvd you don't even have to rip the dvd first, it can do it's thing straight from the disc. I have both staxrip and fairuse installed without issue. Also fairuse allows encoding with h264.

Thanks! I have it downloaded and was waiting for your reply before I installed it. I'll go ahead and give it a shot as well.

Can you choose the output type (just curious) for it? Fairuse I can seem to only get avi from it ... could be me but if there's a setting I missed it.

If you are looking for a 1 click app that yields pretty decent results try the latest Divx play Bundle, the Converter now has a few setting to tweak if you want to but you can pretty much pick the profile, drop the file and convert. The results are pretty nice considering the simplicity of the app
