Did a transfer test as u instructed ... one staight yellow line burning at 2x and one almost straight green colour up all the way to 2.78x with a few jagged edges on the line but straight line. so it will mean my drive has no problem rt ?

So now wat is the problem ?

Chewy
20 Jan 2006, 03:39 AM
jagged edges are bad burns or bad reads or both, now if you could do a test on that disk in another computer and no jagged lines I would suspect
your drive is malfunctioning.

Maybe burn at 2x if your discs support it?

Erm... if it tops at 2.somethingX, then why not burn at 2.0x? Should work fine... as seen there.

BTW, what is considered 1x... the time of the movie or a standard data rate or something else?

Chewy
20 Jan 2006, 07:26 AM
1x = about an hour of burn time give or take a decade or two

drfsupercenter
20 Jan 2006, 07:36 AM
LOL! Is it by kilobytes? I used to think that 1x was like playing the DVD at 1x speed but obviously it is faster.

Hi Chewy ..

But my transfer test looks like the one posted by blutach on his link on " HOw to test the disc with nero " Still drive faulty "..anyway very funny.. and now when I wanted to do a transfer test it says unrecovered read error 031100

Sometimes I can do transfer test , sometimes I cant.. ????

I mention to u that I transfer my mpg files from my external hdd back to my laptop and did another burn. Now with nero cd dvd speed surface scan, I got a 100% perfect burn ! So wat is going on ?

Is it because my fiiles were in my external hdd " or I really have 5 dvd faulty ??? All verbatim disc ??

Chewy can u teach me how to put a pic on the website so tat I can show u sometime .My chapter 6 only 2mb with 12 mins . But when play that time got the actual time..

Me very puzzled now ..

Putting a pic is simple. Go to http://imageshack.us - then click Browse, select your file and hit Upload. Then use where it says "hotlink for forums" or "thumbnail for forums", copy that texy This is a type 1 forum (don't use the second or type 2 one).

Paste that text here and submit. Viola!

Chewy
20 Jan 2006, 11:33 PM
DRF,
If you study cd burners you will find a very expensive model used to
be king of the hill, the plextor premium with 8MB cache, we used to keep
3 or 4 working at our shop, did a lot of mobile and internal DJ stuff!
A little over a year ago I tested a nec 3520 dvd burner against the plex
cd burner. The plex had been 100$, the nec 40$, the nec won!
That makes your cdburner spare change(moral of this story).

Yeah either way I don't have enough money to buy myself a new burner... and it is nice to do on the fly copying. That one firmware site does not allow me to download the firmware, is there another one?

Sometimes I can do transfer test , sometimes I cant.. ????

Is it because my fiiles were in my external hdd " or I really have 5 dvd faulty ??? All verbatim disc ??

Chewy can u teach me how to put a pic on the website so tat I can show u sometime .My chapter 6 only 2mb with 12 mins . But when play that time got the actual time..

Me very puzzled now ..

Can u kindly explain wat is going on above ? Me wants to learn and know why ?

Here is what reading looks like:

Now, when copying CDs, should I put source in CD burner and blank in DVD burner and do on the fly? It reads sort-of fine.

cof from cd burner to dvd burner @ 16x, graphs don't lie, I overestimated the worth of your cd burner at $5. LG makes good dvd burners!
Unfortunately you have an LG cd burner, and a Samsung dvd burner.

You can't make a "silk purse out of a sow's ear" just a better sow's ear.

LOL!

So would the next step be replacing the CD burner, or buying a new DVD burner, moving the Samsung to slave and putting the new one as master?

And the reason it sucks now is because it is almost 4 years old... used to be able to copy CDs in 5mins... now it takes longer... crappy drive!
