Hi,
I am trying to get an AVI file onto a DVD disk with minimal if not no quality loss. I tried downloading and using AVI2DVD, but after Transcoding, it came up with some kind o error. It tells me to look in the log file, but the log file again says "[5:48:00 PM] Job NOT Done. There are warnings ... Find at
the log file the 0 byte generated file to focus where exactly
the problem appears"

Is there any Free, easy-to-use program that would allow me to convert my AVI into the necessary format, and then burn it onto a DVD? I dont need menus/chapters/ect, just the movie. Thanks for the help in advace!

why bother when you dont even want to invest a certain time trying to find out what went wrong with your first choice (avi2dvd)

you want NO LOSS of quality but you dont want to do anything in order to achieve this

Did you read my post carefully? I implied that the log file doesn't give me useful information. "but the log file again says '[5:48:00 PM] Job NOT Done. There are warnings ... Find at
the log file the 0 byte generated file to focus where exactly
the problem appears' . This IS the log file, called AviDvd_Log. And that is my problem... it doesnt tell me what error it was that occurred. And I'm curious, why invest a certain time making such a useless, and unhelpful post?

Check your output folder for a zero byte file. That's where the process stopped - probably because of bad input.

why invest a certain time making such a useless, and unhelpful post?

simply because i am tired of people not willing to search for answers but instead ask for the next best tool

are you sure you didnt download crappy stuff in the first place?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'crappy stuff'. The AVI file is and should be working fine. I was able to try another, simpler tool, called WinAVI, which put it into DVD format for burning. Now I am having more difficulty. I tried burning it with that same tool, and the process stopped at 58%, while the 'time left' just kept increasing. I then tried burning the same VIDEO_TS with Video DVD Maker, but before it started, while it was 'building ISO file' I got some kind of error (wish I had written it down). Do these look like signs of a bad AVI? Or does anyone think it didn't convert to DVD format well? Any program suggestions? Thanks

IMO winavi is one of the worst tools out there. they want you to pay for it too. you could scan the avi in vdub i suppose to check for bad frames at least. i use tmpgenc for avi conversion. with the right codecs, and directshow raised in tmpgenc if it fails (black screen)--it's the file.

Well, I tried converting the AVI into the VIDEO_TS format using TMPGEnc. After it finished, I realized I had the settings wrong, and it produced a different kind of format called m2v. Would you or anyone else be willing to give me a quick tutorial on just how to convert the .avi file into the right DVD format (VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders I believe), with minimal loss of quality using this program? I am just really lost when it comes to all of these settings. Thanks in advance!

TMPGEnc Plus will not produce Video_Ts .It will produce DVD compliant MPEG2 files .U will now have to AUTHOR these MPEG2 in Tsunami DVD Author to produce ur Video_TS and Audio_ TS.In TMPGEncPlus, use the DVD Template(PAL or NTSC) to produce the MPEG.
BTW I think all this information is in the HELP files of the programmes.

Well, I think I have figured out the DVD authoring aspect. I'm now running into a problem where I have no sound. I am using Nero 6 Burning Rom to burn the DVD. I know there's a VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS file, but should there ever be any files in the AUDIO_TS folder?

Another problem I am having is with DIVX movie files. First of all, they don't seem to load at all in TEmpeg encoder. So I tried using X Video Converter to convert the Divx to the m2v and the audio file (forgot the name of the format). But it only seems to want to convert it into mpeg rather than mpegII. So, TEMPEG DVD Author won't recognize it. Is there a way to author an mpeg? Or is there a better converter for divx files that I ought to use?
Also, Nero 6 doesn't seem to allow recording onto DVD-RW. Is it only DVD+R and RW that you can record DVDs on? Thanks!
