View Full Version : The Toolbar You'll Keep
Google Toolbar 4 has useful and elegant new features.
Lately it seems as if everybody and their second cousin has attempted to follow Google's example by cobbling together a browser toolbar. Most of these shortcut collections do little more than push the page content farther below the virtual fold and replace it with a string of ads to the company's sites and services (the Yahoo Toolbar is a prime example of this approach). But it's clear to me, based on a few days of using the beta of Google Toolbar 4, that the first is still the best.
Topping the list of version 4's new features is type-ahead help in the search text box. In typical Google fashion, the search-term helper is simple, elegant, and useful: As you enter text, a small window pops open below the box, listing popular search terms beginning with those letters. The toolbar remembers past searches, too, and lists them here when appropriate. Credit & More Info: <a href="http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,124590,00.asp">PC World</a>

I have the normal Google toolbar, and Yahoo (the old one... the new Yahoo is a piece of crap... found that out the hard way, had to do System Restore to fix it), what's the difference? Is it worth it?

The only toolbar I have is the IE 6. What is the difference? Can it really help?

Isn't Google one of the worst places to pick up viruses and stuff? And if that's the case, why would you want their toolbar?

Google toolbar works great. A wealth of information available with a few short key strokes.

Google is a search engine and is one of my choices because of this (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,11069-2002328,00.html). No discussion of this as it may violates the rules as it is a legal matter!
Any search engine can direct you to site with viruses.

I loved it when you could make google your default search engine but M$ did something and it doesn't work anymore. Or if it does I missed how to do it.

I only mentioned the virus stuff because hubby said the systems guy at his work said google was the worst.
I use Google too, its a great search engine. How do you think I found digital digest? But when I have a question I use askjeeves.com.

If'n I want to search for something, I just open another tab, go to google and search there...I don't really want a tool bar.

I had read that somewhere too BR7. The article stated that the toolbar would help Google collect searches, results, results visited, IP addresses, time of day, browser being used, and a total log of all sites visited regardless of whether or not you found the site through search or directly URL.
Personally, I have a hate on for ANY toolbar. For some reason they scare me

Please excuse me for getting a bit off topic ---
Google and other search program owners have been in the
news lately. The US Congress has been grilling them for
submitting to China's laws and limiting searches for China.
How ironic when the US Congress authorizes the US to go
deeper in debt by borrowing billions from China.
China now is the 2nd highest holder of US debt,
only exceeded by Japan.
Also in the news. Google is expanding its Linux support.
At this moment I prefer using Linux for www and email.
Google is my home page.
Got to go. The NBA is on the tube.
