Xvid to dvd audio garbling

problem = converted an xvid to dvd

now it plays back fine in the pc dvd player,no problems.

but when i put the dvd in the tv`s dvd player the sound is really low and sounds like its under water,all garbled.

any ideas how to fix this ?

have removed and re installed all codecs
recorded it on 2 os`s and still getting garbled sound when i put the dvd in a standalone player ?
yet avi and dvd play fine when played on pc through powerdvd etc.

I have the same problem but I found that unplugging either the red or white RCA cord from the DVD player fixes this. Don't know why but I would love to know how to fix this for real.
