Ok here is the deal I have had an optorite DD0203, Which has been a great burner for me for the past few years. The problem now is it wont ready any blank media higher then 4X.

I went to supermediastore.com and bought 200 4X DVD -R (TY)

when they arrived the discs on the top were great and were 4X discs,

but now I am finding that there are 8X and 16X discs mixed in the bunch.

Which I can not use with this writer.

I also bought a new DVD writer again an optorite DD1205 this writer can read up to 12 X DVD-R

Here his my delema:

The store that I bought the optorite DD1205 will exchange it for the DD1603 at no charge for me.
Question is will the optorite DD1603 be able to use the DVD-R 16X discs that I am stuck with?

And where is there a good place to buy DVD-R 4X disc that are really 4X and not 8X or 16X ?

if the DD1603 will be able to read the dvd-r 16X then I can use these blan dvd i have.

If not I will have to return the DVD's for credit to my card. If the DD1603 can read the 16 X then I can get an exchange at no charge on the writes. I am not sure if that writer can read the 16 X discs though.

Thanks

can you update the firmware for the old one that may read new 16x or 8x ? , you can try verbatim digital Movie they are actually 4x.

I would keep the old one if it can write after firmware update

No the lasted firmware for the 4X writer can only read 4X I tried that already and it cant read 8X I have a spool of 8X the newer burner that I bought can do the 8X but can not use the 16 X even with the firmware updated the best I can get is 12X.

My real question is what the DD1603 can read.

It says here but I cam confused:

And I am looking for a place where i can get good 4X media for the old burner the burner still works great to use on my other pc.

I mean can I use the blank DVD-R 16X and burn at 8X or 4X so I could use the media I am stuck with or will that not work?

I am stuck with some 16X media

key clue here is the date of last firmware

Apr 23, 2005
kind of old but might support 16x media

TY media should be one of the most commonly supported medias

So if I were to exchange the DD1205 for the DD1603 and update the firmware it may take the 16X media then ?:toast:

NightTran

with the burners I can only get even exchange.

With the DVD's I can get a credit to my card but that will take 4 to 6 weeks.

The burners can be exchanged with in 1 week if that will work.

if you can't return the optorite for a refund or pay the difference for a mainstream then I would defintely take the gamble, I just got 300 disks that
cost almost 90$, I could buy 2 very good burners for that much money.
and will, when the benq 1650 and nec 3570 hit newegg

The LG 4163B is $3.00 cheaper and the firmware is newer. It also burns DVD+R's as DVD-Roms Great drive. I have one. Over 600 burns and still using.

keep the dvd's, the newer ones will only get worse as time passes

I can already see a drop in the quality of MIJ media

mass production comes to japan

Ok that helps so keep the blank DVD's and exchange the burner if the firmware doesnt help then go with one of those two burners rather then return the blank media?

Is this one of them that you are taling about in the event the exchange of burners doesnt work out.

like a tweak move left and right for speed to make good quality

Burner With exclusive SolidBurn Technolog - OEM

Ok what does SolidBurn Technology mean ?

solid burn will enable the burner to pause the burn, check it's results with new media and adjust and learn how to best burn that type of blank

for speed records it's turned off, for quality it's used, but to set a speed quality record, they let the drive learn to burn the disk then turn it off.
it is rocket science/brain surgery
