View Full Version : CCleaner - removing unnecessary data from your drives

CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less that a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware! :)
CCleaner freed up some ~1.450 MB on one of my machines today - i didnt even know install files can amount to this insane size :smashead:
anyone looking to remove some temp files or correct registry settings give CCLEANER (http://www.ccleaner.com/) a try!

CCleaner really made a difference on the 'older' PC I was trying to tweek for my daughter to be able to rip and burn on, with only a 533 mhz processor and 320 MBs Ram. Rips in around 20-25 mins now and burns in about 8-9 mins. Amazing what that final touch with CCleaner did to get rid of all that crud on the old PC which was slowing it's performance.:toast:
Been using CCleaner for awhile now, it's a great little tool.

I have been using CCleaner since November 2005 since my last crash and fresh start. The guys who did my computer put it on and told me to run it once a month. But with all the files I download here and everything else, I do it every Sunday morning check up.
Wonderful program but remember to untick delete dvd shrink analysis files if you want them.

I have been using this for over a year and I love this program:) The programmers are always improving CCleaner and it keeps getting better

I recommended it to somebody here (http://forum.digital-digest.com/showpost.php?p=272058&postcount=4) in June 05
You weren't the last. I gotta tell you, so far it is pretty amazing. I used a combo approach CCleaner & System Suite 5 along with a check by Error Nuker.

Nice catch UncasMS,
Nice little compact program that removes a lot of useless files. I have downloaded the program and installed on two of my computers.
I am going to use it in conjunction with:
1. JV16 power tools (registry cleaner)
2. Hijack this (registry cleaner and identifier)
3. And the standard method to delete files within the operating system.

Just another reason I am slowly switching from Windoz to Linux.
Hopefully no more need for cleanup, fixup, and defrag
programs when the switch is final.
Don't get me wrong, CCleaner is great and the price is right.
But the very reason it is needed (Windoz is so dirty and unsecure, not to mention costly) bothers me.

I am the last to know, for the time being anyways.
I downloaded this morning, I like the program, no problems so far with anything, except that I erased all my addresses, so I have to type them in for the first time in a while.
Thanks for the link.

Uncas, sounds like a tool i need to try. I still think my pC is slow, especially since i recently added 512 mb (Total now 1gb) and have not seen much improvment in speed.

Great program CC Cleaner, I use it often.
But, I have found it is better to do a clean install, (completely remove the old version, from the add/remove programs, hard drive, and registry, BEFORE you add the latest version.)
The old version leaves a lot of remains in the registry, even after removing.

What do you do if you have installed over the old several times and you have already did the same with the new?
Do you know where the old parts are located in the registry? (I usually use CCleaner to take care of that problem) :)
