hello everyone! i'm rather stuck in a video conversion, and since you've always been so helpful i thought i'd ask :)

i have two avi files. the first file plays perfectly in WMP and i want to convert it to mpg to make a VCD. problem is, i can't load it into virtualdub, nandub or TMPGEnc. when i try, virtualdub tells me that the H264 codec is not found/supported. so i set out to find this codec but i'm not really sure what i'm looking for-- every page i find says that it's still in early development stages and that X264 is the best encoder, but at this point i'm not sure if i should download that for what i'm trying to do.

the second avi plays perfectly in the divx player but won't load in virtualdub or TMPGEnc either, this time because of the XVID codec. i'm pretty sure i have that codec, so what can i do about that?

any help is appreciated,

carla.

for the H264 in avi, download & install ffdshow from http://www.x264.nl , go start-->programs-->ffdshow-->vfw codec configuration, click 'decoder' and change h264 from "disabled" to "libavcodec"

for the xvid avi, change xvid to "libavcodec"

should be fine with all vfw apps now http://img309.imageshack.us/img309/4001/smile4mw.gif

alternative is avisynth avisource()/directshowsource()
