The Pioneer BDP-HD1 has a SRP of $1,800. I know I can't afford that.

Hope all of you have some overtime you can pick up at work. :)

I would not even consider paying that kind of cash $1.800 in the u.s. and it is gonna cost about £800-£1000 in the uk apperantly those sort of prices are just a complete rip off you would be better off buying a playstation 3 or xbox 360 the add on drive for the 360 is gonna be around the £200 uk and $400 u.s. i just bought the xbox 360 for £350 with three games all cables and hard drive so if i buy the add on hd drive it will cost a total of around £550 and at least it has other uses besides just a dvd player not sure but i think the playstation 3 will be ready straight away

@blu
I think blue ray and hd only diff is that one disc holds more than the other and as i have not heard of a blue ray television i think both disc as you say be component connections to a high def television not sure though

True...I'm betting that it will not come down for sometime though.

I'm planning on putting some money aside to start saving up for a player.

Maybe even a possible burner

I just want to watch one movie on blu ray to see what it is like. When i put a movie on my netflix queue it asked me if i wanted the blu ray format and it made me feel outdated all of a sudden. But to be honest it will be cool but imo it's nothing like the switch from vhs to dvd it won't be as widely accepted because of the massive dvd collections people have accumulated and prices will stay high for awhile. i still want one though.

i wouldn't mind having one either. I heard from people who have tried them, they said that the picture is amazing. I want to see for myself.

I do agree that it wont be like the switch from VHS to DVD.

Once i can see how Blu-Ray looks, i may start saving for my own player and burner.

I can imagine the picture looking great on a decent TV, but I have no plans to replace any of my existing DVD movies with HD version. It will be more like upgrading a DVD player, rather than buying something completely different, and I can see my DVD purchases being replaced with HD DVD and/or Blu-ray ones over time.

@soup -Yeah - that, too. And my cousin, Fred Black and his brother in law Chuck Berry contributed so much, they got the honour of Blackberry (Berryblack didn't quite sound right).

@angel - ;) Actually fired it up last night and popped in an SD Card and to see the pix of my son on the big screen was great.

Half a dozen jokes, eh? Let's see 42" didivded by half a dozen = 7" per joke, right? Seems fishy.

Hi all! :)

Blu-Ray DVD will be excellent....that is if one cares about high resolution video and extreme 7.1 or above audio.

However, none of that matters if you do not have a television set capable of these resolutions. It is also useless unless the tv set has the HDMI input. Even RGB component will not yeild the full resoultion offered by Blu-Ray...besides...RGB is analog.

As to the audio, well 7.1 or above sounds nice. The current 5.1 is good enough 4 me. Some of the audio will have frequency responses well above 22khz on the high end, and well below 50 hz on the low end. Unless humans suddenly developed super frequency hearing ranges, most folks wont even be able to hear byond 22khz or below 50hz. But it sure SOUNDS and LOOKS impressive!

Im going to hold off on forking out 1,800 bucks on Blu-Ray until the 2nd or 3rd generation. As with anything electronic or computer based equipment, the first rounds are the ones with the bugs, and worked out and fixed in later revisions, by that time, the price should drop down considerably....that is if the market becomes saturated with the units. Once the market gets saturated, the price will be extremely cheap.

Also by that time, the LCD flat pannel units will also come down in price.
