I am needing to buy a new internal Dvd drive for my computer and would like some advice on which to purchase. Backing up movies is my primary use. I have been told that Benq makes a stable drive. However, after looking into it, I see that some of them have Lightscribe technology. I'm sure the media is more expensive, but for personal videos it might be worth trying out. Is this worth having? Does it compromise the integrity of the disc in any way? Is this burner worthwhile, or are there better ones for the price on the market? Stability and good quality burns are my biggest concerns.

There are many excellent burners on the market in the $40-$50 range....NEC 3550, BenQ DW 1650, 1655 many Lite-Ons, LG's and Pioneers. I own an NEC and love it, but my next drive will be one of the BenQ drives and for a few dollars more than the 1650 goes for you can have the 1655 with lightscribe capabilities if you ever want to try it out. If it were my money I'd get the NEC or the BenQ, but here are some threads that may guide you in the right direction...

Stay away from the Sony's, they are really made by other manufacturers like BenQ and Lite-On...Also stay away from the BenQ DQ60, it is a Teac drive.

I bought a NEC 3550 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?DEPA=0&type=&Description=nec+3550&Submit=ENE&Ntk=all&N=0&minPrice=&maxPrice=&Go.x=0&Go.y=0)at newegg.com to replace a cd burner. Love it, no trouble at all. Bought 2 more for the other PC. :)

The Benq 1650 internal is a great burner. Does scans and is able to learn from each burn. Chewy turned me on to it. Along with my LG-5163 external.
