Nero 7: "Reset Occurred" error during lead-in in 50% of my DVD burns

    Hi,
I seem to have a problem with Nero 7 and my Plextor PX-716A
(SATA burner). Roughly 50% of the DVDs I burn fail with a "Reset Occured" error during Lead-In writing. I have tried different media; same result.

One odd thing is that with Nero 6 burning works flawlessly (no coasters burned),
so I'm considering downgrading to the older version, but I would really like to figure out what's going.

    My computer is a DIY:
    - Asus A8V Deluxe MB
    - Athlon x2 4400+ (Dual core)
    - 3GB RAM
    - Pioneer DR-A14S (old) CD ROM on IDE
    - Plextor PX-716A on VIA SATA
    - Seagate HD 160 GB on IDE
    - Seagate HD 250GB on VIA SATA interface
    - Seagate HD 250GB on Promise SATA-RAID i/f

I would very much appreciate any input...

    Thanks in advance,
    Mikael

Well... actually I'va done a complete WinXP reinstall recently (had some other problems, but I thought I'd give Nero 7 a chance again). BUT - on the prevoius Windows installation I tried giong back and forth 2 times between Nero 6, and Nero 7 and every time Nero 7 (in any minor version I tried) will cause this error. Nero 6 (6.6.0.18) does not exhibit this problem on my system. No other changes were made when switching versions.

Just noted that the memory size reported in the log is not correct: I have 3GB RAM, not 2047 MB. Not sure if this is anything that may cause a problem...

In addition to the excellent advice you are already getting, I would check your DMA & firmware. If you choose to flash firmware, do it frome safe mode with no disc in drive. There is also this guide on DMA as well.

            Thanks for the answers...

My VIA driver is (according to Nero InfoTool)
            File: viamraid.sys
            File version: 5.1.2600.530
Description: VIA AHCI RAID DRIVER FOR WIN 2000/XP
            File date: 31 march 2006, 02:18:30

I am not over clocking, all drives have DMA on (even though the Nero log file suggest that the SATA drives have DMA off, VIA v-raid tool says DMA is on.)

Plextor DVD drive is at latest firmware. Looked at the DMA guide; everything seems OK on my system (as far as I can telll)...

I'm still in the dark here....

My VIA raid driver came with the latest VIA hyperion pro (4-in-1) driver package which I got from VIA Arena.
Chewy, could you please give the details on your driver version?

                Thanks again

you aren't gonna like this but I use only certified drivers, and windows default

been using via chipsets for a long long time, won't touch any via arena or 4 in 1 stuff.

                  mine 10/17/2003
                  5.1.2600.220

very iffy proposition getting serial plexs to work with that chipset, forget beta drivers

Hmmm.... very iffy indeed...actually previous time I installed Windows (not this time) I thought that the "reset occured" problem was caused be me not using the VIA 4-in-1 drivers. However, installing them did not change the behaviour, but backing down from Nero 7 to Nero 6.6 did cure it.

And yes, I backed my driver to the version you have, and still have the same problem with Nero 7.

What really annoys me is that Nero 6.6 seems to work flawlessly on my machine, as does the supplied PlexTool application (for burning) that came with the DVD drive. It is only Nero 7 that shows this problem. Guess I'll revert back to Nero 6.6 (or buy me a new DVD burner... non-sata this time!)

If there are no other suggestions I'll have to revert to Nero 6.6.

Can someone an alternatve to Nero 7?

For burning you could look at ImgBurn (free).

you might want to run the clean tool and try one of the earlier versions
