Hi, I have used Staxrip to convert a dvd (http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/400281#) to XviD (http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/xvid.cfm) with AAC (http://www.afterdawn.com/glossary/terms/aac.cfm) 5.1 vbr 200kbs - 250kbs audo in a .mkv container.

Perfect quality, and sound comes out, but on my 5.1 amp, the main sound (ie speech) comes out of the left speaker only, with the rest of the sounds out the rest. I have check the wiring of my set up, and when played on my stero pc speakers (http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/400281#) the main sound comes out left speaker only.

I have read that different formats have different channel mapping, but how do the rest of you guys get it right. what do you use to have 5.1 sound when converting to xvid?

What could the cause of this issue be and how can I get around the channel mapping.

Many thanks
Skully

welcome to the forum http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/7017/smile6ku.gif

an issue with old nero dll's, nero has released a free cli encoder since, but not sure if staxrip supports it.

either way you migth want to try your hand at something like BeHappy for encoding your audio separately and mux to mkv afterwards

Thanks for the replies,

I have resorted to adding the existing AC3 file for the time being. But AC3 increases the file size unneccesarly - .

I like staxrip for the convenience of loading the project and to just let it be.

Would upgrading to nero7 possibly fix this problem?

Thanks once again.

Hey everyone,

I have read many guides now, and noted that admin(administrator) details in his stax rip guide (http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=67325) that he used AAC 5.1 - quote from guide:

"AAC supports 5.1 channel encoding as well (which is what I have selected)"

Does anyone else use AAC5.1 with their conversions, and if so, what are your results like? and any suggestions to fix my incorrect channel mapping.

But for now I will be using AC3.

Thanks
Skully
