wont read blank Dvds....

so ive been burning a few months with absolutly no problems....I use DVDshrink and Taiyo Yuden dvds....issues started recently when a few of my burned dvds would hiccup a lil on my computer...but would play perfect on my PS2...figured my burner needed cleaning....so i used one of those discs on it and now..

my reader will rip the dvd....go to the insert/check blank disc screen...and stall.....my burner wont read blank dvds anymore...I dont kno what to do...I tried a few TY dvds....even some memorex dvds....nothing.....though it can still read movies if I put them in....I dont know what to do now.....did I mess up my burner by cleaning it?....do I need a new one?

Open DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn and put a blank disc in the drive.

See if one of these programs will read the blank disc.

Post back with your results.

dvd decrypter?....im not sure how to access that......but I tried burning a data disk with just Nero......clicked on check disc....and it stalled for a long while

Maybe the drivers are corrupted. Try uninstalling and reinstalling your DMA.

See beside firmware in my signature in post #2 and look at DMA problems.

What is the maker and model # of your burner?? Maybe a firmware overwrite or upgrade is needed.

heh......funny thing....according to my computer.....I have niether a dvd/cd drive....nor a burner.....ugh.....do i just turn my computer off and unplug and replug both my drives?...

ugh...this has happened b4....though never with my dvd/cd drive.....wierd thing...this has happened twice b4....it happens if Im burning and im playing my PS2 at the same time.....wierd no?....they arent even plugged in the same outlets......they're not connected in any way...

well I reinstalled both which then called for me to reinstall the memory.......my burner still can't recognize blank dvds.....I'm very upset..

Can it read a movie dvd and original dvd? Is it only blank media it cant read or all dvd's?

it can read movies....just not blank media....I ve tried multiple Taiyo Yuden and Memorex discs..

in fact i try to get nero to read to blankmedia and before I know it...my computer doesnt recognize either my dvd drive nor my burner...twice in the same day...

Any log will do as it will tell a lot about your system and possible conflicts.

You firmware is way outdated that would by why your burner cant read new media.

if your burner would read those exact blanks before then a firmware update
could hardly help(unless it suddenly became corrupt), if the blanks changed to a different mid code then a firmware update might help the burner see them.

do a search for
atapi.sys on your hard drive, it should be in the system 32 folder under drivers

ok...so I rebooted my computer....yea it took longer than it should've.....had the same issue......reinstalled my old cd burner....and that works....so its not my computer.....then i had a friend of mine check out my dvd burner....it recogized blanks for a lil...but it wouldnt burn and froze his computer twice...
basically I think my cheap lil burner burnt out...guess those skipping burned movies were the 1st sign...any recommendations for a new burner?
