What do you recommend for these purposes. I have 2 avi's that I want to merge and then encode to dvd to burn and view on the television. I also sometimes get xvid or divx that i want to turn into dvd format so I can watch it on the television. What programs do you recommend both freeware and non.
It would help if they were pretty straight forward as well but not a requirement.

Nameless, Please don't double post, You've already posted this question in the conversion/encoding section. This will be answered there I'm sure. :)

Nameless - read rule 11 please.
Oily - rule 17 is for you mate.
I think this does belong better in divx conversion, so I'll move it there.

For merging AVIs use Virtualdub(make sure the two files have same resolution, sampling rate etc.).
To convert the merged AVI to DVD try AVI2DVD or TMPGEnc Plus.

Here is one great guide (http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=57804) for Avi2Dvd.

to avoid audio sync issues i suggest TMPGEnc or something of similar quality to convert, merge with TMPGEnc dvd author.:)
