converting divx into a format playable on work computers

I've seen the guide on converting divx to vcd but not sure if this is really what I need ... I've taken a few files off youtube using the flv-divx guide (thank you) and I want to embed them in a ppt presentation for my pupils to access on school laptops (and my chances of getting the IT guys to install the codec are slim)

any advice on a suitable file I should encode to?
