Samsung SD-612 inoperable

I tried to apply new firmware (0.6) to my Samsung SD-612 DVD-ROM. After downloading, the system doesn't recognize my DVD-ROM anymore. The system is DELL Optiplex g-150. The problem was probably that i used a W2K flash utility under Win XP.

Any ideas on how to get it back to work?

Hey Simon...

Havent tried it on the Dell setup, but I flashed another DS-612 on my own pc. Ceate a dos bootdisk, and copy the dos flash utility to it, with the proper .bin file an retry to flash it in dos mode. There seems to be a problem with the WIN flash utility...

I already tried the DOS utility, but it doesn't work, because even the BIOS doesn't recognize the drive. It shows as the drive doesn't exist. Later I found some answers to other posts like:

which explain my problem. It seems that the BIOS on the drive is corrupt due to a problem in the windows flash utility.

:smashead: Stupid me! Sorry I didn't see the thing with the system not recognizing the drive at all.
I read the explanation from the thread you added. I think it sounds like a cool idea having the EEPROM reflashed, if you can dismount the drive yourself. On the other hand If you play stupid, and try to make your dealer replace it, thats far the easiest. I replaced my DVD (SD-612 as well, but not a Dell system), since I thought it was defective. It turned out there was a replacement warranty, so they didn't even bother to send it to service first. I hadn't messed up the EEPROM though, but merely flashed it with a hacked firmware. Don't know if they will find out, but I don't see it as my problem then... :p
