Hi guys,

This may be a daft question. I have converted a couple of XVids to DVD and always choose 224kbps for the ac3 audio (unless is ac3 already!). I was wondering, how does dolby digital compare to mp3 - should I use a lower or higher bitrate. For example, I have a xvid with mp3 160kbps audio and was wondering what ac3 bitrate to use.

Only reason I ask is the lower the audio bitrate, the higher the video one, but I don't want to loose audio quality.

Cheers

Mr E

For stereo, you can encode at 192kbps, 2 channel. If you are encoding more discrete channels (say 5.1), use 384 or 448kbps.
