Hi Guys:
Can I convert mp4 to avi so I can use TMPGEnc to burn it to Dvd? If not, how should I handle an mp4 file if I want to burn it to dvd???
Thanks,

Then Author with TMPGEnc dvd author.

Hey there Lt:
Long time no talk to. Hope things are going well with you!!!!
Anyway, I tried to use Super and create the mpeg II. The file is only 3500Kbs?? It played for about 19 seconds. I'm not sure what I need to do to set up the program properly? What are your thoughts?
I selected:
1) mpg (MPEG II) for the Output Container
2) MPEG-II for the Output Video Codec
3) mp2 for Output Audio Codec
Thanks,

those settings are right, using the jan 4/2007 super? don't think it would matter though. did SUPER crash? is it set to partial encode?

Hey Lt:
It is the Jan 4 build an no it didn't crash. The encode process was entirely too fast though. I can't find if it is set to partial encode. Where would I look for that??? Do I need to set any other settings (ie. Video, Audio, Output)???
Thanks,

bottom right corner of the green video section> "other options"
what player do you use for this file and how long is it?

Hey Lt:
I set the encode time to 7500 seconds. It made the exact same size file in about 30 seconds. I am using media player classic or windows media player. (I want to be able to burn it to a dvd.)
When I try to play it using mpc I get this error:
DirectShowSource: "Could not open as video or audio.
Video returned: "DirectShow Source couldn't open file E:\...\...\...\.mp4
Cannot playback the file. The format is not supported."
And the exact same thing for the audio.
(C:\DOCUME~1\JOHNMU\LOCALS~1\Temp\xxx~1.MP4.AVS, line 1)
When I hit the Play(Active Files | Streams, the .mp4 file does play the contents.
I currently have these codecs loaded up FFDShow, Xvid, H264 and that it.
Thanks,

try this
its either that the applications do not support the mp4 container, or no vfw codec on your system. if the former, extract to raw h264 stream using YAMB and use AVC2AVI to mux to avi. if the latter, download ffdshow, open up vfw codec configuration and select libavcodec for h264
SUPER is supposed to have everything it needs for this conversion though, others have posted about it here.

you need the appropriate directshow filters. download & install haali's media splitter and a recent ffdshow build http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/7017/smile6ku.gif

MPC has a built in mp4 splitter and aac decoder. All it should need is ffdshow to decode the video. For other apps though like directshowsource() in AVISynth you would need an external mp4 splitter.
Super can convert via mencoder and ffmpeg, both of which can handle mp4's directly.
TMPGEnc can also handle mp4's if you have the directshow filters installed to play them.

exactly the 2 fellas i was hoping would chime in. so this file must be screwed if SUPER pukes at it?

tmpgenc, and in this case, super, use directshow to decode the streams. looks like he's missing the mp4 splitter and was only able to play it before because MPC has its own. i don't use super, but perhaps there's an option to use avisynth of ffmpeg, and avisynth is selected?
in any case, haali's media splitter should get directshowsource() working http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/7017/smile6ku.gif

I see. i don't work with .mp4 and wish i had one to do some testing with super:(. i seen someone else just do a one click conversion with mp4 and SUPER here, plus their web site says it has everything internal so i figured it shouldn't require and external filters unlike other software:)
SUPER has an option where to use directshow but is off on default (i never use it with SUPER) i leave it on ffmpeg.

download YAMB, give it an avi with aac/mp3 audio, hit mux http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/7017/smile6ku.gif

Hey guys:
So here's what I did. I uninstalled everything and re-installed it. Super seems to be working. I have created an mpg that is 1.27gb. I did, however, create it with the DirectShow checkmarked. Lt: Do I need to create it without DirectShow and just use ffmpeg?
I tried to run it through TMPGEnc Author and I got a video resolution error:
The video resolution 480x256 cannot be used for a standard DVD. and
The video framerate 29.97fps cannot be used with the resolution 480x256
What's my next move?
Thanks,
jwmghf

Here is what I am trying:
I have "ffmpeg" and "Use DirectShow" selected.
I double-clicked on the mp4 file in Super to find out the file specs (ie. Video Scale Size, Aspect, Frames/Sec) and changed them accordingly. I did nothing with the Bitrate kbps or the Options catagory.
I changed nothing in the Audio area at all. The Sampling frequency was set at the right frequency. It's now creating the mpg and I will report my progress tomorrow.
Later for now,

ffmpeg or directshow don't matter. you are making NTSC dvd? if so use 720x480 or 352x480 with 29fps (assuming the source was 29) in SUPER. if you don't you will get the error in dvd author as you mentioned.

Hey Lt:
I did just as you said and I got an error anyway. It says:
TMPGEnc DVD Author
Cannot load DLL file "Resample.dll
What does that mean?
Thanks,

the folder that contains TMPGEnc.exe should contain the following DLL files:
P3Package.dll
P4Package.dll
Resample.dll
if you move TMPGEnc.exe somewhere else, it won't work. it must reside in its folder, which contains those dll's and other files it needs. maybe you could re-install it?
