There are many of them. I use LameMP3.

i prefer extracting sound from vobs via vob2audio to wav and then i use wavelab for further 'enhancement'.
it definitely sounds better to me than besweet/azid/lame created audio!

I use DVD2AVI to extract *.ac3 file. Then i use BeSweetGUI to convert .ac3 to mp3. Thats take a little bit long but the result is excelent. After that i use SoundForge to amplify the volume.
Till yesterday GoldWave was the volume amplifyer program for me...but ....something strage happening with GoldWave: my mp3 file was 122 minutes long....but GoldWave open that file only 155 minutes long....so no sound for the last 7 minutes for my movie. So, i swich to SoundForge.

Shion, i doono what's happening with GoldWave. Try to use SoudForge XP. Is great and more important....works directly on mp3 format like Goldwave

i let vob2audio extract to wave because i want to increase the volume by some 3db and i (due to routine and for hardly any good reason) downsample to 44.1khz.
all this is being done in wavelab and thats where i finally save to mp3.
i have run MANY tests as to which mp3 sounds better for me and so far i consider this way the best for my taste!
i have fine dolby surround 2.0 with a powerfull (due to normalizing and amplification) sound.
