Hi,

I recently downloaded an .avi file. It is 1 hour and 20 minutes long, and I tried a number of times to put it on DVD+R's and CD+RW's with a few different programs with no success. I would like to put this file onto a DVD+R preferably.:fan2:

Can someone please help me out, and give me the links to some good freeware to get this done?

Thanks a lot in advance,

-steele.

I doubt you'll get any help, read rule # 6

What programs did you use? Did you simply try to use your dvd authoring program? That works for me. I've used Sonic MyDVD in the past, and am trying out the new trial version of TMPG DVD Author Pro.
MyDVD started not accepting avi's for import, but a poster here provided me with a link to a codecs program that allowed MyDVD to accept them. http://www.ffdshow.info/
If you have been using your dvd authoring software, and can't use avi, this may help you as it did me.

You need VSO ConvertXToDVD or VSO DivXToDVD to do that. The difference with those two is, VSO ConvertXToDVD allows you to add more than one title to a disc and you can createa menu, VSO DivXToDVD only allows you to add one title only and there's no option to create a menu. The only problem is, these are not Freeware softwares. After converting an AVI file, when you go to your destination folder, you'll see a folder with the title of your film and inside there is the VIDEO_TS folder with all the DVD files. What I do when I use one of those DVD converting programs, I run the DVD files through the DVD Shrink to create an ISO Image File so that I can burn with IMGBurn.

One good tip. Never use the burning tool that comes with VSO ConvertXToDVD because it's useless. Every time I tried burning with software I had a handful of playback problems all in one DVD. It's only fit for converting to the DVD files.

I hope that helps.

Darren.

From what I experienced and read...

VSO ConvertXToDVD (http://www.download.com/VSO-ConvertXtoDVD/3000-7970_4-10640298.html) was formally DivXToDVD but is updated and shareware.

DivXToDVD (http://www.filepedia.com/video_software/video_encoders/vso_divxtodvd_free.cfm) is freeware.

DivXToDVD 2 is the shareware version of DivXtoDVD. Trial version is available here (http://www.vso-software.fr/download.php). I haven't tried this yet.

[EDIT]There is another freeware for AVI to DVD conversion called DVDFlick. Read here (http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=79327).

I guess I'll have to read the rules more thoroughly, not clear as to what is accepted and what is not to post or respond to !

@shrink0

In my opinion and experience, there are non-copyrighted AVIs out there and they could be free trailers or personal family stuff. I didn't want to jump the gun and assume that is was. Ste3le was smart enough to know the game not to incriminate himself/herself by not providing anymore information then I would've done some moderating justice.

Same goes with people who copy rental DVDs. If they just say that they have a DVD only and not state what rental store they got it from, it's cool in my books. That's smart posting. Otherwise, I would have to interrogate alot of people and they would deny, deny, deny. I don't have the time to do so.

Remember, "innocent until proven guilty".

Thanks a lot guys, I'm trying DVD Flick at the moment, I hope that this works.

The first thing that I did was use Windows Movie Maker (I'm using Vista), and the DVD burned fine. Everything went well, except for the actual video on the DVD. Half of the screen was green. The actual video was NOT being cut off, it was just playing in only half on my TV screen.

So then I tried a few other programs, forgot their names though, with no luck.

I hope this DVD Flick works.

And who said I was breaking any rules?:p

Thanks again guys,

-steele.

@shrink0 (did I get the spelling right?)

You're pushing the boundaries! Please do not act in loco moderator. At the very least, you are hijacking Ste3le's thread. Now, stay on topic please.
