I recently got an XBOX for my birthday (bunch of friends chipped in and bought one for me).
I was curious...this device has the hardware necessary to play back DIVX movies, it has an Intel 733 processor, 64 megs ram, really good video card, sound card and DVD-ROM drive that can read audio cd's. It also uses the Win2K kernel, so Windows 2000 software should run on it!

My question is, do you think someone will come up with a way to write software that will load up in an Xbox and play a divx movie on the cd??? imagine how cool that would be.

I think it's only a matter of time that someone will port the openDivX source to the Xbox.

Look at this link http://news.cnet.com/news/0-1006-200-8147450.html?tag=tp_pr . It's already possible to view DivX on a X-box.

I've heard that the OS that they're running is some sort of Windows. I'm not surprised that someone would program a divx player and mod the HD so that it could play divx movies on cds. Afterall, the drive IS a regular DVD drive.
