What is the best program for spilitting files. I have been using Boilsoft video splitter...but it seems that I have been having some problems. When I try and split an AVI, I get a message stating that "the source avi file is encoded with an improper vbr audio" and it tries to convert the file. This process takes a really long time and before it seemed like I didnt have this problem. Just curious if there are better programs to use when chopping up files. Thanks for all your input.

dolomite41 for .avi stuff check out AviDemux and VirtualDub(and variations like VirtualDubMod etc.)
AviDemux is pretty tolerant of input and will prompt you to use a key frame when splitting.
The user interface is pretty intuitive.

Hi folks,:)
@ dolomite ... Hi there ... Boildoft software are usually pretty easy and striaght forward to use ... if it actually says there is a problem with vbr ... most likely there is.
@ Miles ... long time no talk ... Miles, is AviDemux more tolerant of what dolomite's Boilsoft program is complaining about!?!?
Thanks,
G!:confused::confuse3:

VBR audio in avi do cause programs to squirm a bit while handling it. However, AVIDemux rebuilds the time map while working with VBR audio and does a great job of it.

gonwk I haven't tried boilsoft but I do like that AviDemux usually prompts you to do the right thing such as rebuilding time maps as paglamon mentioned.. using smart copy etc..
So far the only thing I haven't found easy in AviDemux is appending a bunch of avi files. There may be a way to do it other than manual repetition but I haven't really tried to dig out the info. I've found GUIs for
asfbin that make it easy to join a numbered series of .wmv but so far I haven't found that specialized utility for .avi. It may be out there I just haven't looked that hard yet. :)

Virtualdub does it. :)
AVIDemux can also do it,but in a complex way:http://www.avidemux.org/admForum/viewtopic.php?id=3088
BTW, is that gnwoak at AVIDemux the same as our friend gonwk here ?

Ive tried the AVIDemux....however..i am trying to figure out if i can split the files into an equal size clips...like if i have a file that is 76mb have it split into 4 18mb sections. Boilsoft lets me do this and this is what I like about the progam...however with the VBR messed up...the words do not match up with the video
