AVS Video Tools

Hi folks,:nod:

Has anybody heard about this program "AVS Video Tools" ... not a Freeware ... but someone was claiming that it is "Visual Hub" (runs on MAC OS) equivalent for Windows OS.

Q1: Is it any good? Or what Freeware is close to this as far as Performance goes?

Q2: Any of you folks have you actually used it before? And for what conversion(s)?

I haven't used it myself. I googled for reviews and if these on CNET are any indication, the
licensing is a stickler. Take a look for yourself:

You're welcome. I was just messing around with Quick AVI Creator that I noticed from the VideoHelp front page. It looked like it would be a good front end to AvsP for doing AviSynth stuff but when I got the .avi output it had wicked bad jitter on my stand-alone player.

I've tried StaxRip a few times but seems like I have to fight with the UI too much. If you run into a similar tool that's easy to use to quickly produce .avi for stand-alone players please let me know. It's like the quest for the Holy Grail to find one that does a good job
in single-pass mode that's free/cheap. :)

I use AVIDemux (http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/). Till now all the files produced by it(more than 100) have played easily in my standalone. Just make sure you have QPEL and GMC ticked OFF or 0. Also it is better to have unpacked bitstream.

Thanks for the info. I was using AviDemux for awhile but I'm kind of unclear
on BVHQ and Number of B Frames settings. Do you have recommendations for those? I seem to remember setting B Frames to 0 didn't have the desired result. I like AviDemux generally so if I could use it for mpeg to avi so much the better. :)

You can also use Virtualdub(MPEG2 preferably). Here,if using XviD, selecting the Advanced Simple Profile @ L5 gives the most satisfactory result. Virtualdub has the added advantage(over AVIDemux) of giving you the option to use DivX. Home Theatre profile in DivX seems to be the best regarding standalone compatibility.
