Firstly, it's DRM.

Secondly, what type of DRM is it? Is it from a download site like Blockbuster/Amazon Unbox/etc? If you just found a WMV file via file-sharing and it has DRM, there's no way to play it.

If you have the license file (most movie rental sites will give you the license when downloading the file), it should open if you have Windows Media Player 9 or above.
