I was looking at this, not that I might get it, but interesting. Only thing I don't understand is how you power up the drive. I know the USB won't pump enough power to a 500gb hdd. I see the data connectors, but can'tfigure out where would the power connector go outside of opening up the computer case. Thnx. They owe me $$$, so if it's worth it wth.

Manual for this thing should provide more info:

It looks like it has an AC power adapter that you plug into the wall.

Thnx Admin. IYHO is this something that might be worthwhile? I mean Newegg owes me about same price as this n if reasonably solid pretty good as I won't have to open n close case + add extra power to my PC which could prolly handle it. Main thing I want is for backup of video n other digital files so having it mounted in case really don't make sense if for primarily storage.

There's a pic of the power cord in the second to the last pic from Newegg. It's still bundled up. Plugs in to the jack with the two pins.

I could see it now. Is this worth a try is what I'm asking? Thnx

It looks like it would be ok. It is necessary to have the separate power supply and you have stated. The USB port will not be able to power the hard drive. It needs 12 and 5 volts and more current than the USB port can supply to the connected devices.

Would prolly have to get a external case for it though. Yesterday I used the cage from my build to run the WD Zero thing, but since it wasn't a USB external panel had to b open n hdd's hooked up to inside. Everything went well. But better to have case closed and hdd more protected, even though when inside it's exposed as well but not to outside elements.

I picked a thermaltake case from Microcenter that will do both Sata or IDE drives. After rebate it was $19.99. The case is all aluminum. It also has an ESata interface also.
