I have even run the uninstaller from safe mode, like fighting a virus.

Clean it out with registry mechanic or ccleaner or something like that.
I don't think MBAM conflicts, but Chewy would know more.

MBAM is not meant to take the place of an antivirus program, it's to supplement only, even in resident mode it's not loaded with a ton of definitions, it has advanced heuristic and load point protection.

You could look into Avira & Comodo.

What is MBAM?
I will do a search for registy mechanic and download ccleaner for this machine.
thanks. I would idealy like to run norton again. But not to sure on that since McAfee was installed to this computer. However the version of McAfee that was installed to this machine was a collage free download and not the full store bought version which some friends have been telling me that the campus downloads for stuff like that are not as full as the ones you buy online or in the stores.

It's never a good idea to have more than one Anti-Virus installed at the same time. They conflict all the time. If you can't uninstall the entire McAFee, you need to look for a removal tool.

Avast Antivirus is free to home users and i've never ad a problem with it. Every time i've put it on friends computer who had been running Norton or McAfee or similiar it has detected trojans/virus the paid ones hadn't.
