newbie here... someone help me compress some files (400+mb avi)

Hi all,

I was directed here by a friend of mine... could someone help me compress some video files?

they're around 400-600mb each and they are .avi

I would like to get them as small as possible but still maintain decent viewing quality.

please tell me if I should be posting in another section.
