avi2mpg conversions

HELP!!!when i convert avi 2 mpg files using tmpgenc the mpg files play back in black and white as opposed to colour - any ideas/solutions????please:

While running the video under Windows Media Player (NOT fullscreen), right click on the video in the window and select "Proeprties". Click on "Advanced" and do8bleclick on MPEG Video Decoder". Change the setting from "monochrome" to "color".

thanks for taking time to reply, but unfortunately, still no joy. I can create an avi file which plays back colour thru out entire length, its only when converting to mpg that half way thru it turns black and white (using tmpgenc) any other suggestions please
